Costumes You Can Make On Your Own

By Rand Fortescue

Homemade clothes are often equated with cheap, if not downright shoddy outfit. However, that is not always true. . Show off and prove them wrong. Make your own Halloween outfit and bring out the artist in you. Things lying around the house or good thrift shop finds can absolutely stimulate one's imagination. It is always exciting to look through you closet and see what you can find. This is a great way to make use of old clothes sitting in the rear of your closet collecting dust.

Having an idea of what you may want to do as a do it yourself Halloween costume project is good, however the inspiration may also be drawn out of what materials are available. Making a robe or flowy back is one of the simplest things you may make. That piece will complete any witch look along with a broomstick, tresses, pointed shoes, and hat. To make it funky looking, paint in swirls in brilliant colors or attached disks all over.

Painting on some swirls or sticking disks to the robe will surely make things more interesting. Nothing would complement the broomstick or the hat, for that matter, than a red rose made of sparkling glitters. To truly look like a witch, make up is the key- thicken your eyebrows, shade out a tooth or two, and do not fail to remember the mole.

For the precise opposite of a witch, you have the fairy costume. For starters, if you want to make a fairy ensemble you will need a flowy gown in a light hue, rather pastel colored. There are many choices in a vintage shop, or you can opt to make one yourself. Adding some tulle or anything gauzy with some glittering sequins could enhance an otherwise plain gown.

Don't forget the wings- you can make them out of wire and sheer fabric then connect it to the gown in your own creative way. A small crown, bejeweled rod for a wand, gold dusted ballet shoes and some pinkish glow, one can bounce, prance, and fly away fashionably.

Just imagine how lofty you will be walking into a party wearing a homemade costume. This goes to show just how talented at the same time crafty you could be. So be proud and flash what you've made.
