Bowling reached England around 1100 and was often played on the perfectly manicured lawns. Therefore, it was referred to as Lawn Bowling, and in 1903, the English Bowling Association was formed.
The Dutch took the sport of bowling to America, and introduced the simple concept of the nine pins set in a triangle to the Americans. Many people began to play the game in New York, and this area is still referred to as the Bowling Green.
