A Wi-Fi Tablet Examined: The Dell Streak 7

By Dean Castello

When the iPad was introduced, people thought, "Whatever, I've got a laptop for that." Very quickly, however, the capabilities of the iPad became recognized. It wasn't long before all the big suppliers of cell phones and computers wanted in on on the strong-growing action. All of a sudden, Tablets were in all the retail stores. Of course, Dell is attempting to get its piece of the pie. That is the reason they created the Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet. Whether this device makes the grade and is worth purchasing is what we are going to try to find out in this article.

It's a good device but watching movies is not a simple as when you download ipad movies. Regrettably, the plainest minus for this product is its maker: Dell. Dell isn't in reality known for creating good and reliable products. The company's customer service reputation is also on kind of uneven ground. After your product warranty runs out, you can expect to be charged for customer service phone calls to the company - at least that is what a lot of Dell customers claim. Hence, while this tablet is in all likelihood going to be one of the cheaper tablets sold on the market, you need to take some time to think about who you will be paying that money to.

Multitasking is facilitate by the tablet's operating system, an Android OS version nicknamed "Froyo." The system's notification service keeps you abreast even if all apps aren't open and running, and simultaneously, you can keep your GPS data and listen to MP3s. There are no worries about being unreachable with the Dell Streak 7 tablet; communications via Gmail and other email setups are well-supported.

A great feature of this Dell tablet compared with the initial iPad is video chat. Video chat is integrated with the Dell Streak 7 tablet through Qik software and a camera panel facing front. The problem is , though, that you won't be able to communicate with people who don't use the same Streak 7 device, or something compatible. Thus, video chatting with people who are on other platforms is not ensured. A fillip for this tablet is that it comes with the On Demand service from Blockbuster. We're not so certain that this is a terrific feature, after all, because of the difficulties Blockbuster is having in the past several months.

Until now, there aren't lots of reviews about this particular product although a few people are wondering what the point of this product might truly be. It isn't a universal tablet - it doesn't have the capability to communicate between non Streak-compatible devices so its functionality is very limited. Nonetheless, a strong desire for a tablet computer coupled with a small budget could make this a perfect way to familiarize yourself with the technology. Before you part with your hard-earned money, however, take care and ensure that you know what you're spending your money on.
