If you are really into sports, or even if you only have kept up with a few different types of sports from time to time, you have probably noticed that practically every sport comes with its own required gear, like karate weapons, boxing gloves, or a catcher's mitt. It is fairly fascinating to think about all the different similarities that come along with comparing something as vastly different as football and boxing, and in this case, the thing that they have in common is largely what makes them what they are and sets them apart.
One sport that requires a whole list of different pieces of gear is football, because football players are expected to have cleats, pants, a jersey, all sorts of different pads for superior protection, a mouth guard, a helmet, and more. Now if take a minute to pretend that you are going to join a hockey team and think of what you will have to have to participate in that particular sport, you will most likely come up with a very different kind of jersey, shorts, cleats, gloves, and many things that don't even go on the player.
You may not feel like the differences in equipment between one sport or another is really worth discussing, but the equipment that is used in each sport is really important and actually makes the sport what it is; it makes it interesting. You would have little chance of hosting an entertaining game of pool if you did not have the appropriate table to play on just like you would be looking at a rather peculiar round of bowling if there was no lane to play on or no pins.
How many occasions have you considered what your favorite games would be played if they were given different equipment to play with, like volleyball with tennis nets? It would be very interesting to witness football players running up and down a large field and tackling one another for the sake of winning control over a golf ball.
Thinking about things such as this probably makes it a great deal easier for you to appreciate the kinds of gear your favorite teams utilize to keep the game competitive and fun. Tennis rackets would make awful karate weapons the same way bowling shoes would make terrible track shoes, so let's be glad that samurai swords and Nike trainers exist in their current forms.
