Humorous Signs Work For Marketers

By Christopher Kringal

If you're a business owner it may be prudent to brush up on your humor skills. It seems people react well to humor signs and funny logos. If nothing else, put up a funny restroom sign or something along those lines to get people talking about your business.

Sometimes all it takes is a funny internet video or a humorous pun for a company slogan for people to remember a business. What winds up happening is influential social media power users wind up spreading the good word about an interesting and new company.

What appears to work the best is subtle humor. People will see the humor but they have to look for it; it isn't blatantly obvious. Sometimes the humor is a bit dark or dry and the sign looks very common at first glance. These signs are the most shared.

Initiating a viral campaign isn't easy. Most of the time it fails. Once the concept has come into play, it should be written down precisely the way it should be presented. Those details, say for a sign, should be directly and clearly communicated for success.

Most signs that are made for humor contain bright graphics and easy-to-read fonts. They are short and sweet and poke fun at modern life in some funny way. The signs do not need to be vulgar in nature to have a comedic effect; only witty in the way they observe or make jest at society.

Not every company is meant to have this type of sign. Some are in serious fields which do not allow for funny signs. They are going to have to resort to regular marketing efforts. For those companies who will enjoy humor, it's necessary to get the marketing department on the same page. That is, have everyone involved in the advertising and marketing departments understand which types of humor are acceptable.
