Things Every Hiker Should Take With Them

By Stephan Silcot

Every year there are a lot of people that go camping for weeks on end and that number keeps on getting bigger and bigger. With more and more people going camping every single year the number of people going hiking is also going to increase along with it. The reason that this is important is because as a fellow hiker you need to know what items you should take on every hike so that you are prepared for the unexpected.

A lot of people think that as long as they have some good hiking shoes then they will be alright, trust me, you won't be alright. If you want to make sure that you are safe and have all the bases covered then you need to take the items that I list below because without them you won't have the necessary tools you need to survive in the event you get lost and have to spend the night in the wild.

Items Every Hiker Should Have

Backpack - Having a backpack is really only important to carry everything that you need. If you don't have a good backpack then you won't have something to carry your stuff in and that is never a good thing since you need to take a good amount of stuff with you.

Waterproof Matches - If you do get stuck out in the forest or wherever you are hiking then you will need a way to stay warm and possibly cook something and that is why having matches is important. The whole point of bringing waterproof matches is so that you are not trying to light a fire with wet matches because those will take a long time to light and by then who knows what could happen.

Poncho - Whenever you are out in the forest you need to have a poncho just in case it rains. The reason they are important is because they will keep you dry and make sure you don't get sick.

Bottled Water - Whenever you are walking around you should have bottled water. The purpose of the water is to revitalize you if you become dehydrated. I don't think I need to tell you all the benefits of having water with you, right?

Compass - If you are hiking without a compass then you should not be hiking at all. I know this might be a little more than you need but I would take at least 2 compasses just in case.

Flashlight - When you are out in the forest you need to have more than one flashlight with you at all times. I would highly recommend that you have 2 flashlights, a smaller pocket sized flashlight and a bigger one that has a few different modes on it.

If you want to make sure you are safe then taking all of these things with you is a must. Just make sure that you don't leave anything behind because you never know when you might need it.
