Comprehend How The Red Ring Of Death Warranty Functions

By Erica E. Reynolds

Many consumers have bought the original Xbox 360 only to find that there was a problem. It was three red flashing lights which were called the Red Ring of Death. This is why there was a Red Ring of Death warranty so that one can have a certain amount of time for the Xbox to be replaced. However, before doing so, one should properly diagnose the situation.

The Red Ring of Death warranty is in effect three years from the date of purchase. One has to be sure not to void the warranty by opening up the console to fix it themselves. Some people do this because they do not want to take the time to wait for another Xbox which is usually three weeks. So they decide to take matters into their own hands.

There are several websites that have been set up to help people who want to fix the problem themselves. This is usually for people who are already savvy with technology but there are other people who prefer to be on the safe side and send it in during the warranty period. But, before one does this, there are ways to see if it is really necessary to get a new Xbox.

It is best to troubleshoot as much as possible before deciding that one has an issue. If a consumer does this it would save them time and money. For example, one might see four flashing red lights and assume that it refers to the Red Ring of Death. This is not the case as it is three red lights that one has to see not four. There are a few key things that one can watch for to make sure they have a problem.

What other factors should one look at to make sure there is an issue? - There are usually two main problems associated with the Xbox. They are the power outlet and the power supply. One can use the color of the power supply light along with the three flashing red lights to determine which one is the problem.

If there is an issue with the power outlet, then the color of the light may be green. This goes with the three flashing red lights. A red power light means that the power supply is overheated. If one turns everything off and allow the Xbox to cool down, this should solve the problem. If one does this in a place where there is lots of cool air, this is even better.

If the light is unlit, one has to make sure that the cables are plugged in properly and that they are fully secure. If this does not solve the problem, then it is probably the power supply cables that are the problem. One would have to contact the manufacturer to find out what should be done in this case.

There is a fee to get the Xbox 360 console fixed if the Red Ring of Death warranty has run its course. One may get it fixed at a repair shop or a friend that knows how to fix the console. On the other hand, a consumer may decide to fix the problem themselves. If one checks everything beforehand however, all of this may not be necessary.
