Party Decorations for your Summer Party

By Sabrina Himaruya

The summer months seem to be filled with parties, BBQ's and weddings, creating the perfect opportunity to make gorgeous party decorations reflecting not only the season but also the formality or casualness of the affair.

Creating perfect party decorations needn't be difficult, with a little bit of imagination and patience you can manufacture the ambience that you desire. For instance, if it is a wedding that you are making party decorations for then consider the formality of the event and the colour scheme required. Usually in summer bright, bold colours are used such as orange, yellow, or lime. These colours can be added by creating a centrepiece for your table decorations, giving a visual point of interest such as tall vases filled with either sunflowers, orchids or brightly coloured roses for more formal events. If you are creating party table decorations for a less formal event such as a casual garden party or BBQ then you could opt for glass containers filled with lemons or limes, or large seashells filled with brightly coloured individually wrapped candy.

There are endless ideas on creating the perfect centrepiece to enhance your party table decorations. Try using some of nature's own offerings for a really effective, bright and yet natural summer feel. Fresh herbs such as mint and basil are always welcomed, not only do they offer a fresh and tingly scent, but they are also pretty to look at, particularly if they are in individual terracotta pots, which can be painted with little flowers or double up as favours by using the guests initials in bright colours. If the event is more formal you could use glass containers filled with multi coloured sand and sea shells for a natural and classy feel.

Table linen can be equally important in creating your perfect summer party decorations; these can be either formal or informal, depending upon the occasion. Lace and eyelets work well on any cloth in any season and for the more formal occasion you can brighten up the decorations by either creating a runner from brightly coloured cloths or layering, ensuring the colours chosen match the rest of the table decorations and place settings.

Generally you will also need to consider place settings that are suitable for the occasion and compliment your party decorations. These can include napkins, stemware, a small dinner mat, cutlery and of course the appropriate crockery. If the occasion is less formal you could mix and match existing coloured crockery, or if it is a more formal affair then simply spruce up the look of plain white crockery with colours such as orange, yellow and lime.

Name cards and table favours are the perfect way to finish off your party table decorations. You can be as creative as you like here and show real flair, you could bake individual cupcakes and place their name on a stick, or even better, brightly decorate them with the guests initials, these are a real treat and double up as favours and create a real summer feel. Or you could opt for small individual different coloured pewter or glass vases each filled with a brightly coloured flower.

Once you have sorted the decorations for the table you might want to consider other party decorations to help create your overall summer theme. For outdoor events you could use brightly coloured bunting, such as Chinese lantern strings hung around your sun parasol, or a variety of garden torches with brightly coloured candles and for indoor events consider using large artificial flowers in vases such as sunflowers or balloons reflecting your colour scheme.

No matter what the occasion, with a little effort and imagination you will have created the perfect summer party with your table decorations truly reflecting the mood of the season.
