The art of Casual Dressing at Christmas

By Gabby Pallister

Formal shirts are one of the most popular items that will be seen over the festive period, and men never step out of the design box to look for alternatives. However, women have the task of trying to find different outfits for different occasions. People are always invited to quite a few parties and events during the Christmas period; therefore, having the right clothing is essential.

Not every party will call for formal outfits, therefore, the men's formal suits and formal shirts can be left behind. Casual dressing is becoming far more popular, and there are many different outfits to choose from, depending on your style. Suits look fantastic, however, if worn at a casual get together you may look out of place and over dressed.

The invitations will typically specify the dress code that is expected of guests, and often it will be described as casual. Some people are choosing the description of holiday casual, which is causing un-necessary confusion. If you receive an invitation that states this dress code, try not to overcomplicate your attire.

Casual means exactly that, and the holiday element can simply be in the choice of colours. As long as you leave the men's suits and shirts at home, and opt for a causal look you will be fine. You need to ensure that the outfit that you choose is comfortable for the evening. Many employers are trying to encourage their employees to relax and enjoy the party; therefore, making it casual dress should help do this. Getting the Christmas outfit right is far more complicated than you may think, and many people still manage to wear the wrong things. If you wear shirts and suits all day, wearing something casual may seem strange. However, the party season is the time to have fun and enjoy time with friends and work colleagues.

There is no need to go out and buy new clothes for the office party, you will surely be able to find something in your closet. If you are attending an event that you went to the previous year, they will not care if you have the same outfit on. Asking what style of outfit other guest are intending to wear will provide you with vital information regarding your personal choice of clothing.

Both being underdressed and over dressed are things to consider when looking to attend any Christmas event. You may have decided on jeans and a polo shirt but, unfortunately, everyone else has chosen suits. You want to ensure that you blend in with the other guests and not be the only one that is wearing casual.

Remember that whatever outfit you have chosen for the events over Christmas you need to like them, feel comfortable and want to be seen wearing them. You should not try to make an enormous fashion statement if that is not really you. Everyone has clothes that they enjoy wearing, therefore, choose these and be happy with your choice. There are variations on every outfit that you can adapt to make it casual.
